Yesterday RIESTER’s Christina Borrego joined with “Powerball” from the Arizona Lottery to welcome “Mega Millions” to Arizona.

Mega Millions is a new multi-state game being offered by the Arizona Lottery. Tickets go on sale at 4 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010.

The public can meet the “Powerball” and “Mega Millions” characters and follow their stories at arizonalottery.com or on the Arizona Lottery Facebook Fan page at facebook.com/arizonalottery.

RIESTER’s new campaign for the Arizona Lottery is sure to continue to fuel record-setting sales.

The Arizona Lottery has experienced a 22 percent sales increase over the past five years, the time span that RIESTER has had the account, while sales growth for the other 43 state lotteries averaged only 10 percent. The Arizona Lottery ranked second in the nation for sales growth in 2009.

Last month was the largest sales month in the entire history of the Arizona Lottery.

RIESTER client VPI featured in PR Week and the Wall Street Journal (again).

Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) has garnered more media coverage recently. PR Week highlighted VPI’s effective Hambone Award, and the Wall Street Journal gave VPI a mention related to the Super Bowl:

Lulu, an English bulldog from Missouri, is the winner of VPI's first Hambone Award.

Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) is a source of many compelling stories because of their unique constituency: pets and pet parents. Last week VPI was featured in the Wall Street Journal.

Yesterday Rachael Ray did a segment introducing her viewers to nominees for this year’s Hambone Award, as well as this year’s winner.

The Hambone Award goes to a VPI insured pet with a quirky claim–and you can only imagine the kind of trouble pets get into requiring veterinary care. The winner is selected from 12 nominees, one from each month.

More on the Hambone Award:

VPI employees review tens of thousands of claims each month. VPI noticed an abundance of claims that were unusually quirky but that ended well thanks to action on the part of our policyholders and their trusted veterinarians. The Hambone Award is named in honor of a VPI-insured dog that got stuck in a refrigerator and ate an entire Thanksgiving ham while waiting for someone to find him! The dog was eventually found, with a licked-clean ham bone and a mild case of hypothermia. Visit the Hambone Award online for more information.

Brand Activists for clean air.

We are privileged to have a business where every day we make a difference in the world. Whether it’s helping to break the grip of addiction, promoting sustainable living, fighting for stronger education or any one of dozens of other causes or products we fight for on a daily basis, at RIESTER we are lucky and honored to work for our clients. We are Brand Activists and we come to work each day fighting for many worthy brands.

One of these brands is the air we breathe. Last month RIESTER helped the Maricopa County Air Quality Department conduct its first annual conference. Lawrence Odle, the department’s director, had this to say after the event: “The Partnering for Cleaner Air Conference was the first in many steps needed to clean the air in Maricopa County. Each and every person has an individual responsibility to improve air quality and unless we educate our citizens and community leaders about what processes need to be followed, we take the risk of losing crucial federal funding for the state, and that is not an option.”

Our team was thrilled to meet Denis Hayes who was the keynote speaker. Hayes was the national coordinator of the first Earth Day when he was only 25. Since that day in 1970, Hayes has continued to distinguish himself as an activist for our Earth. Thank you Denis and a special thank you to the Maricopa County Air Quality Department’s staff for the fine work they do every day to promote clean air.

Thank you Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI).

When a client makes the effort to document an achievement and goes as far as professionally framing the moment for their agency it speaks volumes.

Such is the scenario in the case of Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI). Delivered in person to our CEO Tim Riester, was a framed news article about the VPI Hambone Award, a PR/Digital initiative which RIESTER spearheaded.  The lead sentence in the article says:

“I have to give VPI—or at least their PR team—a lot of credit.” This was a team effort that went beyond the discipline of public relations. Thank you to the entire team whose professionalism I admire.

It’s fun to be recognized, but VPI is the real star for the services they provide to America’s pets. Be sure your pet is insured.

The Hispanic Women’s Corporation’s annual conference is in Phoenix next month.

RIESTER’s version of Brand Activism includes promoting causes that are vital to the future of our nation.  Two of these causes are education and multiculturalism. An alarming fact is that forty-one percent of young Latinas are not completing high school with at least a standard high school diploma. NPR did a report on this last month.

These are issues that are close to my heart. I know that without a good education it is difficult to create a successful and stable life. Whether considering one demographic group, or our nation as a whole, we must do more to improve outcomes in American education. If you are an Arizona resident, I encourage you to visit the Web site of Expect More Arizona and join the movement to demand more from the Arizona educational system. When RIESTER launched this campaign we met students who said that they knew they were academically behind students from other countries, and that they wanted to be challenged more in the classroom. Only by getting involved can we make a difference in their lives.

I am currently volunteering with the Hispanic Women’s Corporation (HWC), a group dedicated to addressing the unique cultural concerns of Latina women. An important part of HWC’s mission is to assist young Latinas in advancing their educations through scholarships and other support systems. HWC is holding their annual conference in Phoenix next month. This will be an exciting event, and it’s an honor for me to be part of a team that is making it a reality.
