RIESTER’s Chief Creative Officer Tom Ortega turns 50 today! Where do the years go? We love you Tom! -Everyone at RIESTER

This month RIESTER had the privilege of working with students from Meritas Schools’ Rancho Solano. The students were asked to create artwork for an Earth Day t-shirt competition that was established by second grade teacher Mary Mulligan.
It did not take long for the children to demonstrate their clear vision for protecting our world. They have a strong sense of stewardship for our planet and they recognize that we all must join together to make a change.
If every adult would speak to at least one child today about the importance of the health of the environment, a more conservationist lifestyle could be stimulated. As this artwork demonstrates, sometimes it’s a question of adults listening to what children already understand.
Below are the winning entries. All students in the school were invited to wear the t-shirts today.
Happy Earth Day from RIESTER and thank you Mrs. Mulligan and all of the children at Rancho Solano!

Somebody's having a good Pet Parent's Day!
If you’ve been to the RIESTER offices, then you know how much we love dogs. So four years ago, we were thrilled when our client Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) decided to create an innovative holiday to celebrate pet owners for the love, energy, and time they put into their pets. These devoted ‘Pet Parents’ expect nothing but love in return, and with that National Pet Parent’s Day was created as a way of saying to pet owners, ‘Thank you for all you do.’ Each year Pet Parent’s are encouraged to celebrate the special day with a free customizable Pet Parent’s Day e-card at www.PetParentsDay.com.
This year, VPI has partnered with American Greetings, the leading manufacturer of innovative social expression products to enhance their e-cards and further expand the message to Pet Parents everywhere. Beginning March 15 and extending through the month of April, visitors to www.PetParentsDay.com can send an American Greetings e-card to the pet owners in their lives who consider four-legged friends a part of the family. Senders can personalize the pet-themed e-card by adding a photo and either entering a suggested greeting or composing a message recognizing their favorite pet parents for all the selfless hours of baths, belly rubs, and trips to the veterinarian. After personalizing their e-card, senders can decide whether to have the card delivered immediately or on April 17, Pet Parent’s Day. Senders and recipients will also be able to share the finished pet parent e-card with family and friends on Facebook!
So visit www.PetParentsDay.com and send your e-card today! And to all the Pet Parent’s out there, a special message from RIESTER: For all the poop you scoop and all the love you give – thank you for being a great Pet Parent!
On March 23rd, kids across the nation united to participate in local movements marking Kick Butts Day, an annual observance of the nation’s youth committed to fighting tobacco. Their energy shone through, and is the same enthusiasm that helped guide the creative process which led to the creation of RIESTER’s award-winning youth anti-tobacco campaign Venomocity: Brought to you by Addiction, which is rooted in their direct input and feedback.
In Arizona, Kick Butts Day events were carried out across the state that shed light on tobacco use here, where it is estimated that 6,800 people die each year from tobacco use and nearly 20 percent of Arizona high school students smoke.
From demonstrations in Yuma and Clifton to the Hopi reservation, youth across the state stood proud against Big Tobacco, demanding a change in the industry’s marketing habits targeting teens and appealing to elected officials to join the cause.
In the Valley, four high schools skillfully performed their own “flash mobs” during their lunch periods yesterday in front of their peers, and then came together as one group last night for an encore flash mob performance at Westgate City Center in Glendale, dancing to the Ke$ha hit “Your love is my drug.”
Nearly 200 kids across the state have also elected to “join a movement” of like-minded teens who want to fight big tobacco. This coalition is another layer in the firm’s commitment to tobacco prevention efforts for youth—and adults—across the state.
Kick Butts Day is a reminder for us all to get behind the cause.
The flash mob:

It’s a busy time of year in Park City.

Sundance 2011 in Park City. Come for the films, enjoy the food!
The energy in town is palpable.
Some of the most creative minds in the world arrive in Utah each January for the premiere festival for independent films.
And for good reason! Sundance is an exchange of ideas and a celebration of the freedom of speech. It’s art on display.
The festival is a time when Park City is almost overwhelmed by one of the most eclectic and interesting gatherings of people anywhere.
Sundance is a place for storytellers to tell their stories. And it’s a place for people who love a great story to be enthralled, entertained, educated, horrified and inspired.
To all of this year’s visitors and participants, enjoy the films and enjoy the amazing food from Park City’s restaurants!
On behalf of the Park City Area Restaurant Association and our Salt Lake City office, here’s to an outstanding Sundance 2011.
The Park City Area Restaurant Association (PCARA) is a client of RIESTER’s. This is a modified version of a post from PCARA. Visit the PCARA website, and start making plans to dine in Park City–a destination named by the New York Times as a place to go in 2011, in part because of the amazing restaurants.
Gabby Giffords is a great American. She is passionate, positive, hard working, engaged in the lives of others, smart and focused. She is deeply committed to her district, Arizona and our country. She is also my friend.
If you watched the news this past weekend and saw one person after another come on television or release statements saying Gabby was their friend and she is one of the most wonderful people they know, believe it, it’s true. Gabby is a gem among us.
I met Gabe Zimmerman a few times, an aide to Gabby who died Saturday. I remember Gabe as someone who was very much like Gabby–engaged in the lives of others and committed to making a difference in his community.
My heart goes out to all who were affected by Saturday’s shooting.
All of us at RIESTER are hoping for a full recovery for Gabby.
